1925 Neptunus Rex
(approx. 220 x 170mm)
A ceremony whose origin is lost in time. It is performed to initiate sailors as they cross the equator for the first time.
I love this, especially this part of the inscription:
“We do signify to all whom it may concern that it is our Royal will and pleasure to confer upon him the freedom of the Seas and to exempt him from further homage, and should be fall overboard, all Sharks, Dolphins, Whales, Crabs and other dwellers of the deep are to abstain from maltreating this person.”
Condition is as seen in the images. Certainly not without the odd crease, blemish or general ravage of time, but wears it well.
