The Green Man is a forest god, representing the cycle of new growth that occurs every spring. The Green Man is most commonly depicted as a face made of, or completely surrounded by leaves (usually oak).

I’m afraid there isn’t much we can tell you about this piece, apart from the fact that it’s a beautifully carved wooden door depicting the Green Man. We discovered it in a dusty corner of a reclamation yard, and the seller was unsure of its origin. It’s unusual in that the door is an irregular shape. Our opinion is that it is late Victorian.
