Hare Spring Bells (SOLD)
Early experiments in Black Magic
Silver gelatin print on glass (4mm thick glass). (230x160mm)
Mounted in an early 20th century ornate aluminium frame. (400x290mm)
Made by coating the surface of the glass with silver gelatin, and projecting onto it the image from a 35mm black and white negative of bluebells at dusk near Firestone Copse on the Isle of Wight. The glass is then developed in the dark room, and fixed with a chemical called ‘Black Magic’.
The image side of the glass is exposed, so must be treated carefully (as you would treat the surface of a photograph).
Because of the thickness of the glass there is a gap between the image and the (painted yellow) wooden mount board, so there is shadow play behind the bluebells.
