‘Disappearing Girl’
£117.00
Victorian ambrotype (1863) in small gilded frame
(235x220mm)
An ambrotype is a photographic process on glass introduced in the early 1850s.
This is a great piece, the layers of depth produced by the framing style work with the beautiful deterioration of the ambrotype, to create an eerie vision of a girl trapped in time. There is an inscription written in 1863 at the back of the frame (please see photograph).
We also currently have the sister piece listed for sale, another ambrotype from the same collection featuring the same girl in the same shoot. You can see this item by clicking here.
