Hand Carved Oak Surrealist Folk Art Figure
Measures 9 inches high.
Truly one of a kind. There is a crude inscription on the base which reveals the sculptor to be a M.K Thomson, and a date that is unclear. The piece is titled ‘Ascent of Man’. I love it, to me it looks like one of Austin Osman Spare’s automatic drawings in three dimensions. I get the feeling it was a labour of love for Mr Thomson - a quintessential piece of folk art.
There is historical repair on the base - it looks like it probably occurred during the creation of the piece. Otherwise, condition is very good.
