Small hand painted Satyr (or Bacchus) mug
(9.5cm to the rim x 7.5cm across the rim)
Unmarked - assumed to be a 19th century Staffordshire piece, but I’ve been unable to confirm this with any degree of certainty, and this is reflected in the price.
It is hand painted in nice fine detail, and this is well preserved.
Condition wise, there is a tiny chip on the glaze on the rim. On the inside, and inside the handle, there are darker parts where the glaze is missed, or where the darker body is showing through. There are also manufacturing fissures on the inside of the handle. Such manufacturing roughness was common to this type of item. Otherwise there is no further damage, and as the hand painting is still good, a very attractive piece.
